What I Offer
I provide individual therapy for children, adolescents, and adults as well as couples sessions. My main focuses are anxiety, depression, and mood disorders, though I help many clients with other disorders and concerns. I especially enjoy working with young adults navigating times of transition, social pressures, and stress.
I take a client-centered, integrative approach, which means that I work with you, to determine your diagnosis and which courses of treatment will best suit your needs. These include approaches that might or might not be familiar to you now—cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), and others—that I will explain as we go. I also provide parent training that emphasizes behavioral management skills. Please see below for more information on some of the areas.
I am available to work with clients in-person and via teletherapy.
Pandemic update: I am currently conducting in-person sessions with only vaccinated clients. Remote sessions are available to all and are effective too!
Individual counseling
This page offers some general insight into some of the conditions I treat as well as my services. The process starts with a phone conversation, and if we decide I can help you in the ways you need, we will schedule an intake session.
What to expect
In our sessions, you can expect to feel relaxed, safe, and supported. It is important to me that you experience compassion and sincerity, in order to build trust. You will feel heard, as I help you gain the ability to understand and process issues/concerns and find long-term solutions. The work is gradual and evolving, but relief is sometimes immediate.
Anxiety
Do you find yourself fearful or worrying to the point where you can’t fully participate in your own life? Feeling too-often restless? Unable to fall or stay asleep? Afraid of social encounters? Overcome by the sensation that you’re losing control of your mind or body? Do your thoughts loop and loop into knots? These are just some of the symptoms of anxiety disorder.
Depression
Is your outlook often hopeless? Have you lost interest in things and activities you used to enjoy? Do you shift between feeling anxious, irritable, and fatigued? Sleep more than normal? Have you noticed changes in your appetite and weight? Do your emotions feel uncontrollable, or do you feel just nothing? These symptoms, along with others, can be indications of depression.
Bipolar disorder
If your moods ricochet between extremes, you might be dealing with bipolar disorder. Do you get abnormally upbeat, jumpy, and wired? Inclined toward sudden bouts of increased activity, energy, or agitation and don’t need much sleep? Are these shifts accompanied by an exaggerated sense of well-being and euphoric self-confidence? Do your thoughts race? Do you become distracted and/or abnormally talkative? These experiences sometimes point toward bipolar disorder.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
ADHD tends to occur in children but frequently carries into adulthood. When you observe your child or yourself as unable to sit still (especially in calm environments), behaving impulsively, always fidgeting, unable to concentrate on tasks, and talking excessively, you could be witnessing ADHD. For adults, it’s important to know how ADHD affects you and if it interferes in your life in some way. Is it difficult to make deadlines at work? Are you struggling in your relationships?
Parent coaching
I work with parents to help them work with their children, to improve social and emotional functioning and overall wellness. As with individual sessions, this starts with a phone conversation, and if we decide I can help you in the ways you need, we will schedule an intake session.
Behavior management
A behavior management plan teaches parents skills and strategies to help them interact and communicate in more positive ways with their children. Strategies include use of positive reinforcement, structure, and consistency, in order to help children feel successful and confident.
Adolescent issues
Parents often struggle with helping their children navigate adolescence. They are looking to build relationships with their children that are more connected, loving, and joyful. Specialized coaching helps parents feel more confident about their parenting decisions and helps those decisions align with their shared values. Coaching’s goal is to help parents to feel calm and empowered, while providing them an avenue to help their children achieve independence and self-confidence.
